Keep the following factors in mind if you want maximum returns for the money spent.

Blue Sapphire set on silver should be worn particularly on a Saturday and also only when the moon is in the waxing stage. The first hour from Sunrise on an auspicious Saturday is the best time to wear. To know more about this you can consult your astrologer. Never use a panchang to obtain the auspicious time, as they are not specific and need not match your horoscope.

Give life to your stone

* First wash your gem in rose water.
* Keep it immersed in milk for one hour during the first hour from sunrise starting from one Saturday to the next Saturday.
* Then keep it in rose water until the chosen date.

Invoke the blessings of Lord Vinayaka (Ganesh) on the chosen day before getting started. Recite 108 names of Lord Ganesha and then start reciting the following mantra that are associated with your planet Saturn or Sani.

It is believed that blue sapphire is studded on Lord Sani's crowns

Concentrate forms of Saturn during your recital. Recite one of the following mantra 108 times.

OM RAVI PUTRAYA VIDMAHE YAMAGRAJAYA DHEEMAHEE, THANNO SANI PRACHODAYAT

(OR)

OM KRAAM KREEM KROUM SAHA SANIYAI NAMAHA.

This mantra should be recited every Saturday during the first hour from sunrise for 8 continuous Saturdays. Sesame seeds (Yellu) can be included in the offering during the pooja. It would be ideal to request a qualified purohit to do the necessary pooja in case you find all these a little complicated. For more details and guidance please consult your astrologer.

Composition of blue sapphires

The basic material of sapphire is known as corundrum - a colourless material formed from aluminium oxide. It is the addition of titanium and iron during the formation of the sapphire crystals that produces the beautiful blue of this corundrum variety. Crystals of sapphire are found as hexagonal bi-pyramids - hexagonal pyramids arranged base to base. Because of its distinct shape, the sapphire is placed in the trigonal crystal system. Raw sapphire gemstones are usually water-worn, which gives them the appearance of miniature barrels.
