Longer and wider than the model it replaces, the new Citroën C5 has real on-the-road presence, with an aerodynamic profile that alludes to the car's dynamic qualities and accomplished road handling. Measuring 4.78m long (the estate is 5cm longer), 1.86m wide and 1.45m tall, the new Citroën C5 imposes itself at the top end of the large family car segment.

The interior of the new Citroën C5 offers occupants an environment that exudes refinement, comfort and style. The same taut, flowing lines seen on the exterior are replicated inside in the detailing around the doors and dashboard, echoing the pursuit of quality throughout the car.

The attractive styling is exemplified by the instrument panel design, where annular needles run around each of the dials, allowing an electronic display unit to be integrated in the centre of each dial. Additionally, a screen on the overhead console displays an illustration on start-up, symbolising the car, its five seats and the seatbelt warnings.

The new Citroën C5 introduces a second-generation fixed-centred controls steering wheel, with membrane-covered controls, providing easy access to key functions such as the cruise control, radio or telephone. The model can also be specified with Citroën's new-generation NaviDrive system, featuring a 7-inch central display screen and voice activation of the built-in GSM telephone, audio system and satellite navigation.



Large Citroëns are well known for providing the highest standards of occupant comfort, and the new Citroën C5 is no different, with special attention having been paid to the acoustics, suspension and seating. (netcarshow)

It is speculated that Citroen will be following with the charming classic of the past, the 2CV model which is similar to the Fiat 500, VW Beetle and numerous other models.

The 2CV will follow of course have a host of new features and hybrid engines. It just happens to be that the 60th anniversary of this model, is of course this year, and the Paris Motor Show is coming soon, so lets hope Citroen have something to show.

The Italian designer Paolo Martin has put forth the proposal for the 2CV which will be combining the 2CV with aesthetics and modern technology. Paola Martin has described his concept as “a reinterpretation of an unattractive yet brilliant vehicle.”

Citroen announced that they will enter the 76th Monte Carlo rally with two 2008 Citroen C4 WRC’s driven by Sebastien Loeb/Daniel Elena, and Dani Sordo/Marc Marti. The two 2008 Citroen C4 WRC’s will start in the 76th Monte Carlo rally on January 24.

Citroen ready for the ‘off’ on the road to Monte Carlo

A year after making its competition debut with a resounding one-two finish on the 2007 Monte Carlo Rally, the Citroen C4 WRC is poised to tackle the World Rally Championship’s longest-standing event for the second time. For the first round of the 2008 season, Citroen Sport has entered two cars for four-time World Champions Sébastien Loeb/Daniel Elena and their Spanish team-mates Dani Sordo/Marc Martí.

In the course of its long history, the Monte Carlo Rally has emerged as the world’s most famous rally. Last year’s event saw the return of legendary stages like Saint Jean en Royans, Burzet and Saint Bonnet le Froid, and this year’s menu features the comeback of yet another classic: the Col du Turini. Should snow make an appearance, the setting will be ideal!

“I’m obviously dreaming of a white Monte Carlo, with real wintry conditions,” says Sébastien Loeb. “The route focuses on three different regions, so the stages will be very varied. Thursday evening’s tests are wide, fast and smooth. Those in the Ardèche are more technical, narrower and occasionally bumpy. Last year, the conditions were particularly dry but it should be fun if we get snow and ice this time round! I am delighted to see that the Col du Turini and some other classic stages in the southeast corner of France are back. That said, the challenge of having to contest the final day’s four stages with the same tires could well turn out to be quite delicate.”
